James Miller Williams is a struggling carriage maker. Ira Jackson is an escaped slave. Hugh Nixon Shaw is a fire and brimstone preacher without a church. Bootjack Mary is a middle aged prostitute. John Henry Fairbanks is a silver spoon land owner. They all have one thing in common, they smell opportunity when oil is discovered in the fields of Black Creek. While some strike it rich with gushers, others luck runs out and wells run dry. The gripping true story highlights the struggles and triumphs of the original Hard Oilers.
Black Donnellys (43 minutes)
The history of the infamous 1800s feud between the Donnelly family and the town people of Lucan, Ontario is finally being told on the big screen in this highly anticipated local production. After a land dispute went sour, a man lay dead and the Donnellys found themselves in the midst of a growing feud. On one side an Irish immigrant family known for their quick tempers and fighting prowess, on the other side an scorned mob dead set on revenge, and young love caught in the middle . The true story told at last, unbiased and unfettered.
Few people outside of Lambton County know the impact our area had on the early energy industry, which continues to employee a large percentage of the area. Oil and gas accelerated the industrial revolution and largely powers the age of technology.The upcoming film BLACK GOLD tells the early oil history, from the 1850s-1860s, in Oil Springs when it was called Black Creek.It shows on the big screen for the first time historical figures Hugh Nixon Shaw and JH Fairbank, along with James Miller Williams, Josiah Henson, Charles Tripp, Alexander Mackenzie and “Bootjack” Mary.
Black Gold is a remarkable story, inspired by true events, following the intersecting lives of the original hard oilers of Enniskillen. Scenes were filmed where the history happened, including: Fairbanks oil fields, Oil Museum of Canada, Petrolia Discovery, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Fanshawe Heritage Village, and more.
The film will be paired with Black Donnellys as a double feature, along with a Q&A at the premiere here at the Imperial Theatre on January 19th.

Black Gold features music by Grammy nominated musician Brother Dege, along with Lost Dog Street Band, Josh O’Keefe and an original score by Felipe Tellez.

There are approximately 100 spaces on Christina Street and the adjacent streets, all within 5 minute walk of the Imperial Theatre. There is a 2 hr free on street parking limit Monday to Friday until 6 pm. Parking on street is free all day on Saturday and Sunday and after 6 pm every evening. Parking rates vary during the day Monday to Friday until 6 pm. After 6 pm parking is free, as well as all day on Saturday and Sunday.
