If you have ever considered opening the curtain into the world of theatre, are relatively near the start of your theatrical journey and want to build your skills, or have been away from theatre for a long time and want to reconnect, this is your chance to Discover The Stage!

Theatre Sarnia is thrilled to announce a series of workshops that will provide opportunities for new and beginner performers to thoroughly explore all that goes into live performance.

Workshop offerings are as follows:

Putting the "Music" in Musical Theatre

Date: Saturday, August 8th

Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

This three hour session will give new and beginner performers a well rounded intro to everything music in a musical! We will cover vocal technique and music terminology, as well as go through some tips and tricks for ensemble singing.

Play On! An Acting Workshop for Beginners

Date: Wednesday, August 12th

Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Curious about acting, but never felt ready to audition? This workshop is a low-pressure space to explore acting without judgment, competition, or performance expectations. No experience needed. No auditions required. Just a chance to try, play, and learn in a supportive environment. Please note: the workshop is also being offered later in September. The same material will be covered in both time slots.

Dancing for Singers and Actors

Date: Monday, August 17th

Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Do you feel confident in your singing and acting abilities, but the idea of a dance call at an audition makes you sweat before you even start moving? This workshop is for you! We will break down core steps of musical theatre movement and build new skills that will have you counting the beats until your next audition.

Step One: An Intro to Dance

Date: Sunday, August 30th

Time: 2:30pm - 4:00pm

This workshop is designed to be a first foray into musical theatre movement. We will cover basic steps and technique and work on putting together what we have learnt in a short combination. If you've ever wanted to try out your dancing shoes, now is the time!

The Next Phrase: Musical Theatre Dance for the Experienced Mover

Date: Sunday, August 30th

Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm

This workshop is geared to those with more movement experience. Maybe you're a trained dancer who wants to try a new style? Maybe you're an experienced performer who wants to make the leap from "mover" to "dancer"? If you're ready for the next challenge, come find out what "the next phrase" encompasses!

Putting It Together: Acting Through Song for Male Presenting Roles

Date: Saturday, September 12th

Time: 12:00pm - 2:00pm

In this workshop, we will develop our acting and singing skills and work on putting those elements together in one of the most important aspects of musical theatre - acting through song. Please note: this particular session is geared towards male presenting roles and singers with lower voices. Please attend the session that you feel suits you best.

Putting It Together: Acting Through Song for Female Presenting Roles

Date: Saturday, September 12th

Time: 2:30pm - 4:30pm

In this workshop, we will develop our acting and singing skills and work on putting those elements together in one of the most important aspects of musical theatre - acting through song. Please note: this particular session is designed for female presenting roles and singers with higher voices. Please attend the session that you feel suits you best.

Time: 12:00pm - 3:00pm

The same material will be covered in both time slots.

REGISTRATION PROCESS AND INFORMATION

All workshops will be held at the Imperial Theatre, located at 168 Christina St N in Sarnia. They are open to anyone ages 18+ and are FREE to attend for all.

If you are interested in registering for any of our sessions, please fill out the form below. Please note: your spot in each workshop is not guaranteed by filling out this form. Our team will be in touch to confirm your spot in each session. Everyone is welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those who are new to the organization and/or performers who are just beginning their theatrical journey as the goal of these workshops is to provide a learning experience for those who may not have previously had the opportunity.
