EMBODIED IMAGINATION: A CONTEMPORARY ACTING TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Dive into the foundations of modern actor training with this dynamic 6 hour workshop exploring key techniques from Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, Meisner, and Alexander—while centering the imaginative, transformative approach of Michael Chekhov. Through movement, monologue work, and ensemble-based exercises, actors will unlock new tools for character creation and sustainable performance. We’ll also critically examine Method Acting and discuss why it’s no longer central to many contemporary training programs. Open to actors of all levels seeking deeper connection, expanded range, and embodied creativity.

Date: Saturday, July 12th, 2025

Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm (Lunch will be provided)

Age: 18+

Location: Studio A at the Imperial Theatre Rehearsal Studios

Please Prepare: A monologue that you might like to audition with in the future but have not performed previously on stage. This piece of text will be used in the workshop to develop character through the covered acting techniques. We ask that you are please familiar with this text ahead of the workshop (memorization is preferred but you may also use a paper if needed).

Please Bring: Water and snacks for the day. You may also bring a notebook and writing utensil if you wish.

Please Wear: Clothes in which you are comfortable moving and indoor running shoes

Cost: Free for Theatre Sarnia members (pay what you can at the door for non-members)
